Active Release Therapy (A.R.T) |
A.R.T. is an advanced soft tissue technique that treats injuries to various soft tissue structures, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. When soft tissue structures are aggravated, it can cause pain, dysfunctional movement patterns, inflexibility, reduced range of motion, and nerve entrapment. A.R.T. takes a muscle from a shortened to a lengthened state while applying constant tension to break up scar tissue. Scar tissue can develop from acute trauma, such as a fall or a direct hit to the body, as well as from repetitive muscle strain, such as running, typing, or prolonged sitting. Some common examples of injuries that can be effectively treated with A.R.T. include plantar fasciitis, sciatica, tennis elbow, shin splints, carpal tunnel, and shoulder impingement.
